Last Month at the Big Yellow House

This will be my last month for the spring/summer season at the Cameron House.  I encourage you all to make it out.  This is a unique spot with great bartenders and the time allotment provides me with the opportunity to stretch my legs as a musician and performer.
Where: Cameron House (408 Queen Street West – just west of Spadina)
When:  7-9pm every Monday in June
Why:    Because The Big Yellow House is made for magical happenings!

Medical Cupboard Update

Amazing but true!  Visit the CHANGE section to read more about the medical cupboard that was sent to Ejura, Ghana West Africa a year ago now.

VENUE CHANGE for Vancouver Show

The venue has changed for the Sunday, March 1st Vancouver show as Wired Monk is now shut down for Live Music due to noise complaints. This venue is Bean Around the World Coffee @ 1945 Cornwall avenue.  It is near Vera’s Burgers in Kitsilano. Even more intimate than the Monk. Right on the Beach! This will be a fantastic night. Early show – 7pm sharp!

C’est What?!

I recently snagged a golden opportunity in Toronto – a residency at the fantastic C’est What? Brew/Vin Pub Restaurant at 67 Front street east at Church in the St. Lawrence Market area.  Every third Wednesday of the month I will be playing at C’est What? with one other band of my choosing.  The night will start at 10pm sharp and end at 12am sharp – a relatively early night for a weekday and what’s more, a fantastic night of music.  This is an intimate spot to hang out with great food, beer and whiskey and I’ll make sure to keep each night interesting.  This is a good base for me to explore.
Look forward to seeing you there.

Canceled Shows

To those of you who were planning to attend Montreal & Ottawa shows,
I hate canceling shows! Unfortunately, I got a little ahead of myself and by the time I received the contracts for the venues I knew this trip was no longer economically viable. For the next few months I will be focusing on southern Ontario, particularly Peterborough, Oshawa, St. Catharine’s, Hamilton, Waterloo, Guelph with the occasional trips out to London and Kingston. Keep your eyes peeled for future dates.  Two new shows posted for Peterborough!
Thanks for understanding. ..David

Solo

Unless otherwise stated, all of my shows from here on in will be solo.  This currently presents an opportunity to explore more with my guitar and voice in the way I need to right now.  Each show will be an exploration and a chance to show more from my palette of colours.  It will make for some interesting nights ahead!  Looking forward to sharing them all with you.

Vancouver Sun Review

A little late notice, but yesterday we were reviewed in the Sun by Amy O’Brian. Just thought I’d put up one of the prettier excerpts. “Their talent and ambition shine brightly through the music. This is a rare, bold foray into melodic experimentation.”
Thank you, Amy.

Two New Reviews

Visit our journal section to read two new glowing reviews of our album. One comes from a freelance writer for web based music reviews and the other from one of the biggest Blues and Roots websites from Belgium & The Netherlands – www.rootstime.be. They also have a radio station called Rootsradio that we are currently receiving airtime on.

Hooray!

In the wake of a couple of mediocre to down right nasty reviews I thought I’d post this one right up on the homepage for the world to see.

Stirring in funk with some great jazz moves and more than a little R&B/soul, singer/writer/guitarist David Ward, aided by the rock solid and utterly sympathetic Greg Bevis on drums and percussion and Sam Shoicett on bass, has come up with a delicious musical gumbo here. Seemingly unencumbered by the usual conventions, there’s a surprise around every corner, some odd and appealing tempo change or modulation or vocal swoop that’ll keep the headphones on. Think Zappa meets James Brown meets Tom Waits meets Stan Getz meets Marvin Gaye – there are a lot of flavours to the Unstruck Note. One of my favourites in a long time. — John P. McLaughlin of The Province

We’ve solved the music player problem

If the Tunes player has been playing the songs in slow motion, then you need to update your flash! You can do that here www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html it only takes a second, and we’d prefer it if you didn’t listen to our music like David is singing under water.

Track of the Day on CBC radio 3

“Enough Said” is featured on CBC radio 3 as the track of the day for Tuesday Jan. 22 in the blog section. Check it out. thousands of Canadians all across the world download this as a podcast everyday!www.cbcradio3.com

Music Player

We’d like to apologize for the current state of the music player. It seems to be playing the tracks at a slower pace and re-starting the song every time you click a button. It is undergoing some changes, but in the meantime I’d like to let you know that while I do consider myself a man my voice isn’t quite that ruggedly low. Thanks for your patience. Check out www.myspace.com/loosechangetrio to hear what they actually sound like.

CBC Radio 3 Interview

New record

December 9th, 2007 Unstruck Note, produced by Adam Fulton (Terry Clark, Paul McCartney) and recorded at Mushroom Studios, is an amalgamation of lead singer/songwriter David Ward’s history as an actor and classically trained vocalist, and drummer Greg Bevis’ varied past in Jazz and funk outfits. Reverently influenced by jazz, theatre and spoken word artists (Tom Waits, Shane Koyczan) and songwriters, vocalists and experimentalists (Jeff Buckley, Peter Gabriel, Nina Simone), Unstruck Note exposes Ward’s soaring vocal capabilities and theatrical experimentation, along with the drive of their eight piece band that manifests energy, playfulness and creativity.
